An average pair of jeans contains:
Denim For Vets collects these "well-loved" jeans (otherwise known as WORN OUT) and sends them on their way to cover a sleeping vet or members of his family. Ruth's quilt tops are amazing, and the finished product is SO warm, and SO comfortable. Just like a pair of well worn jeans... comfort. We all know how we hate to give them up, even when they have given up the ghost.
Quilting is an exercise in math skills! I flunked math in school, so it is a hard exercise for me, and I OFTEN ask for help from whoever is better at math than I am!
This tab is all about the MATH!
One of Ruth's quilt tops is approximately 84x90 inches. This is approximately 2 1/2 yards of denim each way... leaving room to "square up" the blocks, and trim wear spots. Denim CAN be reversed, so the reverse side can be used if a stain does not show all the way through the fabric.
One average pair of jeans.
The seams are cut out, leaving about a 1/2 inch on each side. These are used for making rugs.
Pockets and zippers are removed and set aside. (Pockets with "bling" make great purses and aprons. Plain pockets can be used for hot pads and other simple items.)
Waistband is removed.
Each average size pair of jeans will provide approximately a "square" yard 36x36. Depending on the jean size each 3 pairs of jeans will give enough squares for a quilt top (give or take, remember I flunked math LOLOL!)
Many thanks to my ever patient husband. Our house is quite small, so part of the living room becomes jean processing space. (I stay away from the silly box that shows sports!!!)
